Thanksgiving’s Absolute Values

Hey everyone! It’s ducky!

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving day (November 28th)! What exactly is thanksgiving? I don’t really know the details, but from what I remember growing up, it is a day where you give thanks to others.

Well, since I don’t really know the history behind Thanksgiving, I’ll go off on a tangent from this topic.

So yesterday, while I was studying math, Takaishi saw and asked if I’m studying trigonometry. And I replied with a blank stare not knowing what he asked. He then replied to my silence with “sine and cosine”.

Ducky: “No, I’m not studying trigonometry, but I’m studying absolute values.”

Takaishi: “Absolute values, huh? Those are really useful. Though I never used them before.”

With that conversation, I thought about it. When are absolute values actually used? Without saying anything, I Googled the answer.

So when do we actually use absolute values? We use it when we are measuring distance. Like if we go to work and then go home, we went a total of 0 meters if we were calculating how much distance we went from home. However, if absolute values were used to calculate the total distance we traveled, we would have went the distance to work times the approximate of 2.

So if we were to relate it to the idiom of “one step forward, two steps back,” we would get the same thing.
But, how? Well, even if we succeed, but then fail later on, we still consider it as experience. So if you add the experiences from your success and failures, you will soon stumble upon an even larger success.

Isn’t that amazing?
In short, don’t fear failure, but welcome the all kinds of experiences you acquire and act with that in mind.
